St Augustine is located approximately thirty miles south of Jacksonville, Florida and holds the title of "Oldest City in America". In addition, it contains the oldest fort in America, the oldest lighthouse in Florida, and the first Burger King that fed Spanish explorers some four hundred years ago. The supposed Fountain of Youth also resides in St Augustine beyond the gates of the Fountain of Youth National Archaeological Park, which may or may not contain the same fountain early explorers stumbled upon. Despite this fact, every year thousands of tourists still drink the acrid, rotten-egg smelling water. Worth it.
Meandering through the more historical parts of town, the city's age becomes quickly apparent. Many of the streets can only be navigated on foot and numerous shops are without electrical power, saving them countless dollars by not having to run the air conditioning.

The first picture in this post is of Castillo de San Marco, constructed in 1672 by the Spanish explorers tired of being bothered by the English. The fort is the oldest in America. The second picture in this post is the Easterdillo riding on a car. During my visit there was a parade in honor of Easter, which would explain this disturbing creation.

Here's an example of one of the buildings without any electrical power. This is a tropical fruits wine shop / bar, and was too hot for me to remain inside for more than a few minutes. It was very considerate of the Spanish to make it handicap accessible.
