The Miramar Air Show is the nation's largest airshow and expected an estimated 750,000 spectators for 2011. I'm not sure what the actual attendance was, but it sure looked like 750,000 over the three day period the show took place. The airshow coordinator called my squadron requesting our aircraft for a static display. Being from California, I immediately jumped on the opportunity to fly the plane to my home state. What better way to spend the latter half of the work week then in San Diego at an air show?

Myself, a crew of four, and several passengers took off out of Washington and after a brief stopover in Maryland (which is definitely on the way to San Diego), we landed in North Island. Once the Blue Angels were done practicing in the airspace above Miramar, we made the ten minute flight and touched down at our destination. Finally. The aircraft was towed into position as we picked up our complimentary rental cars and headed to our complimentary hotel rooms. I had no idea we were so special.
