Chania, Crete, Greece

Welcome to Chania, Greece. The thirty hours I spent here marked the last ounce of 'real life' before a permanent stop in the paradise called the Middle East. Having never been to Greece, I half expected picturesque white and blue buildings atop cliffs by the sea...but was greeted by sagebrush instead. Oh well. I will have to see THAT part of Greece another time. This is the island of Crete where the Mediterranean climate produces mild winters and a major tourist hotspot for the rest of the world during the summers.

My crew and I were determined to make the most of what little freedom we had left and took to the Greek streets soon after checking in to our rooms. It was a twenty minute cab ride from the air base to the nearest town - Chania. Along the way the signs sporadically changed spelling, reading Xania, Hania, Khania, etc. Make up your mind, Crete.
